Yesterday someone didn’t realize that in the US, 44 of the States do not have laws against eating dogs and cats. While the consumption in the US is limited, it does indeed exist. Furthermore, by not having laws to prohibit it here, there is a big argument that the US can’t demand China (and the rest of Asia) to cease the slaughter of nearly 30 million annually! There is currently a new bill, the Dog and Cat Meat Prohibition Act of 2017 that would amend the federal Animal Welfare Act and prohibit the slaughter and trade of dogs and cats for human consumption, and would provide penalties to those caught violating this. We need to do everything we can to see that Congress passes this bill.
